Developer guide to agent authorization
Building an agent workflow that can affect external systems requires clear boundaries between model output, policy evaluation, approval and execution. This guide is a design checklist, not API documentation for an available Noesia service.
Start with the enforcement boundary
Place policy checks where they can prevent the action, not only in the prompt or user interface. Define typed requests and reject unknown fields, stale policy versions and ambiguous principals.
- Authenticate the caller and bind requests to a workload identity.
- Represent action, resource, purpose and limits explicitly.
- Use idempotency and replay protection for state-changing calls.
- Return a decision record with a stable request identifier.
Build for failure and review
Design explicit states for proposed, approved, denied, executing, completed and failed. A timeout should not be reported as success; retries must not create duplicate external actions.
Protect credentials, minimize retained personal data and make audit access deliberate. Include tests for boundary values, concurrent requests, policy changes, revocation and downstream provider failures.
Documentation and availability
Publish endpoint, authentication, rate-limit and version information only when the service exists and has been approved for release. This page does not announce a Noesia API or SDK. For connection-specific considerations, see MCP.
